Description: Gorgeous 12 5/8" oval platter in the pink "Old Britain Castles" pattern,made in England by Johnson Brothers. The "Old Britain Castles" pattern is a serial pattern, each different piece has its own depiction. Here we have on this platter a depiction of Dudley Castle as it looked in1792, one of England's oldest castles, built in 1070, and in use until 1750, when it was destroyed by fire. All of the transferware pictures in the "Old Britain Castles" line were inspired by book photographs of old steel engravings dated 1792.This platter measures 12 5/8" long and features a scalloped edge adorned with flowers and scrolls in pink against a white background.As noted in the backstamp, it is one of only 500 created for Ross Simon for the year 2000.
