John Goodman greets his correspondent with "best wishes for your prosperity on this day it being a day our citizens should hold in higher estimation than any other in a nation point of view" [a reference to the Battle of San Jacinto, and the conclusion of the Texas Revolution on April 21, 1836]. He lists the amounts of board feet flooring, sheeting, weathering, and plank delivered to Skiner, his credits for "cash of Fowler, by cakes & beer, [and] by Georges tickett ball room." Goodman hopes Skiner will attend to the balance due as Goodman himself has a debt to pay to a Mr. Burdit.
