Description: “A Stand of Eucalypts” Original watercolour from the artist’s estate. An original watercolour on paper by John Flexmore, in outstanding condition, titled “A Stand of Eucalypts” and dated '88. Signed and dated lower right. Skilfully depicted, the trees are realistic, growing from a grassy undergrowth, some blue hills in the middle ground, beneath a cloudy sky. A lovely calm scene. John Flexmore, (1911 - 2004) was a well-known Melbourne artist, a watercolour specialist, mainly of representational landscapes. He studied at the National Gallery School, Melbourne from 1930-37 under Bernard Hall, Charles Wheeler and W.B. McInnes. After war service he painted mostly watercolour landscapes, but he also painted several oil portraits under commission. In his early days, made a considerable number of linotype prints. He held biennial one-man shows at the Athenaeum Gallery, Melbourne until 1970. Flexmore’s works are very easy to live with, being very restful. His work is represented in private collections in both Australia and overseas. Size: 28 x 36 cm. Please view all the photos before purchasing, they complete the description.
