This book catalogs ALL published Jeff Jones's work - paintings, color and b&w illustration art, sequential storytelling, sketches, preliminaries, etc - as to where it first appeared, and additionally when relevant, where it best appeared: book covers; National Lampoon / Idyl; comics; The Studio (with Wrightson, Kaluta, and Barry Smith/Barry Windsor-Smith); prints; portfolios; rare amateur-press fanzines, and more! Legendary artist Frank Frazetta once called Hugo Award and World Fantasy Award winner Jones "the great living painter" when Jones and Frazetta were the top two Heroic Fantasy book cover artists of the 1960's and '70's. The late Jeff Jones worked only briefly in mainstream comics, doing strips and covers for DC, King, and Charlton in the '60s/early '70s. One of the most legendary, prolific and recognized areas of his work were oil paintings for over 150 covers of sci-fi and fantasy paperbacks from 1967-1977. Simultaneously, he was doing the monthly humorous strip 'Idyl' for National Lampoon 1972-75, and similarly in the '80s, 'I'm Age' for Heavy Metal. He was one of the famous quartet of artists known as THE STUDIO, along with Berni Wrightson, Michael Wm Kaluta, and Barry Windsor-Smith. The Studio became the subject of a landmark book from Dragon's Dream in 1979. By the '80's Jones relocated to the Woodstock area to pursue Fine Art. He passed away in 2011 as Jeffrey Catherine Jones, having undergone gender transition via hormone replacement therapy beginning in 1978.
