Description: EXCELLENT CONDITION OFFICIAL WHITMAN COIN FOLDER JEFFERSON NICKELS Collection Number One 1938 To 1961 Inclusive No. 9009 Copyright 1967 Western Publishing Company, Inc. Whitman Coin Products • Racine, Wisconsin No coins included This type nickel was designed by Felix Schlag, a sculptor. Letters D for Denver and S for San Francisco are the mint marks. They appear at the right of the building on all dates except the 1942-1945 wartime issues. Coins with no mint mark were struck at Philadelphia. In October 1942 the first wartime alloy five-cent pieces were placed in circulation. These coins were composed of silver, copper and manganese. To distinguish them from regular nickels the mint marks were relocated above the dome of Monitcello, and the letter P for Philadelphia was used for the first time on any U.S. coin. All mint marks were much larger than those on regular nickel issues. The normal nickel composition was resumed in 1946, and mint marks were restored to their original location and size. Nickels dated after 1961 may be collected in Jefferson Nickel folder Number Two.This official Whitman Coin Folder is in excellent condition! Please see all photos for details.
