Description: Auction description Italian or French Old Master Drawing: Delightful Architectural Capriccio Here's a lovely Old Master charcoal drawing, probably early to mid 18th century, obtained a few years back during the prestigious Drawing Week in Paris. It's a capriccio, or architectural fantasy, showing a series of impressive buildings, located by a river or lake, in receding perspective, with lovingly rendered detail on the foreground structures (I love the marbling effect on the columns). At the water's edge, various people in classical dress are going about their lives. Our anonymous artist (Italian or perhaps French) is working in the vein made popular by masters such as Giovanni Paolo Panini. (1691-1765) Dimensions are about 13 inches by 9.5 inches, matted out to about 15 inches by 11 inches. There is a little creasing and a small swatch of a different color in the sky. Overall appearance and presentation are very good. I've enjoyed having this fine drawing on my own wall these past severa years! Shipping will be $20 within the U.S., available to shp after September 23, And to see what else I have for sale, please click here.
