This is a rare original and complete as issued 4 page CIVIL WAR newspaper from 1862 in very good condition. It was printed on a heavy rag/cotton paper so it is not at all brittle to the touch and can be read without damage and is still adjoined at the spine! Pre-fire (1871) Chicago newspapers are extremely scarce/rare. This newspaper was a radical Democratic paper and was quite straightforward in attacking Lincoln Emancipation, and the war effort. Military authorites actually shut it down for three days in 1864, after repeated warnings about disclosing troop movements and encouraging the "Copperheads". There is an enormous amount of historic Civil War news in this original newspaper from Chicago as well as historic and lengthy articles about the Minnesota Indian outbreak of 1862!! Also contained in the original issue is a plethora of interesting local, state and National news and unique ads along with stories and opinions that bring past attitudes, values and beliefs back to life in a way no other medium can duplicate!
