Description: HO Scale Central Pacific Railroad Jupiter Steam Locomotive & Tender in Box! It was two years ago, after the passing of my father, that I renewed my interest in model railroads. When I was little, my father had a HO Scale collection which he left to me. From that collection I found one locomotive, a Virginia & Truckee Railroad Genoa 4-4-0 which required repairs, and it showed me that these trains can be repaired, refurbished, and restored to operational condition for many more years of enjoyment by model railroad enthusiasts...without having to pay hundreds of dollars for the newer models. So what are you getting? As the title states, this is a HO Scale Central Pacific Railroad Jupiter 4-4-0 Steam Locomotive & Tender, an American-style locomotive which was originally released by Rivarossi of Italy as the Genoa, Reno and Inyo, only to be continued by Bachmann as the American-standard such as the Jupiter CPRR and Rogers UPRR. This is the original Jupiter version, which came in silver and black with red accents. Later versions would be released in different color variations. When I received it, the locomotive was in good condition, but still needed some repair work. All connections were tightened including the connecting rods and truck screws. A truck on the tender needed to be replaced due to a massive split which could not be repaired. Beyond that, most of the effort was in cleaning dirt and dust and buffing brass / metal parts to bring back the shine. All axles were also buffed to clean them to ensure full contact with the track for full power. Here are some highlights... 1) All the brass / metal pieces were cleaned.2) The light functions properly when engaged in forward AND reverse. However, in forward, it sometimes flickers which could mean a loose connection, but after repeated tests and no failure, I left it as it was.3) The box and plastic container are included. Strangely enough, the cradle holding the locomotive and tender appears to have been able to hold TWO locomotives, but only one is being offered here.4) Drive shaft was present. A hook and horn coupler is attached at the rear of the tender car. Some damage was found to the steps on the tender which could not be repaired. Testing (see video) shows that it runs well, both forward and reverse. It responds immediately, with no hesitation. The ONLY issue that someone might find with this locomotive is that when it is pushed to 100%, it will sounds a little loud (watch video) in forward and reverse. However, when it is backed down to even 90%, the sound dies down appreciably. The motor for the locomotive is fast and responds quickly. These are the types of locomotives I love to work on, simple in design, yet rewarding when they are restored to operational condition. They may not light up, or puff out smoke, or make noises while running, but they are a wonderful addition to any model railroad hobbyist's collection, be the a long-time veteran, or a new enthusiast wanting to start.
