Description: HMONG STORY CLOTH WAR:. Condition is New. This is a phenomenal example of the extremely detailed fine art of Hmong Embroidery. The tradition of Story Cloth depicting major events of Story Telling through embroidery allegedly originated 5000 years ago. This small embroidery Story Cloth features activities throughout thousands of tiny stitches that bring the Secret War in Loas, during the Vietnam War Era. The people pictured are Hmong Villagers - known as the Mountain People of Loas. At the top right, a village is seen being bombarded by Vietnamese Aircraft. In the left corner villages are seen cooking food. In the right center, a group of Hmong People are seen escaping the Vietnamese by using inner tubes to cross the Mekong River into Thailand. Also featured are a group of Hmong Villagers being approached by a police Officers for questioning. The background cloth is a Blue Cotton / Polyester with multiple appliqued borders of Blue, White and Brown Cotton / Polyester. The outside dimensions of this Story Cloth are approximately 15 inches by 15 inches and the art section measures approximately 10 inches by 10 inches with a Blue, White and Brown Border. This small rare Hmong Story Cloth is in excellent to near mint condition and was handcrafted by a Hmong Woman living in San Diego, CA during the late 1980’s.
