The spiral-bound booklet is one-sided on quality paper with the fine print enlarged for easier reading. A sheet of clear vinyl has been added to protect the front cover. Illustrations include the Putnam County Court House in Ottawa, a home on the Auglaize, and Johnny Appleseed. Among the many and diverse topics in the booklet are: the Amish Settlement; Pioneer Reminiscences, Indian Tom and Devil Jim, the First Road; the Flood of 1830, and the Black Swamp. The booklet also contains a small map showing Maumee Valley and other divisions of Ohio, including the 88 counties. A 1933 look at the history of newspapers in the county, a brief history of Johnny appleseed, and a map of 1805 Ohio are also included. GENEALOGY BUFFS will find a list of 1888 county officers and businesses, along with biographies of seven pioneers: David Murphy, Hiram Sarber, John Wilcox, William Galbraith, Stansbury Sutton, J.Y. Sackett and Brockman Brower. The Howe history covers the development of this area until about 1890, while excerpts from the WPA book give a nostalgic glimpse from a 1940 vantage point.
