They calmed her soothed her she needed time to heal. Sent out in the tobacco fields… hot….tired…pushed… sad … so lonely Singing was her enjoyment and a way to communicate . She sees a man in the field curious.. on Sunday gathering she meets him Jasper…over time they fall in love. Hope…. He wants to leave too. They marry and the ceremony is held at church gathering. Their wrist are tied with a cloth… they live separate but sneak at night. Feels like a lifetime. The war is causing problems with the plantation. People are running explosions death soldiers take over, lady she called mama shot face down in grass…..she runs to find Jasper. They are killing anyone who rebells. Jasper says we need to go.. meet in the woods at night. I wait he never shows. They killed him like he meant nothing….. like a dog… The pain she felt is shown to be overwhelming. She escaped and made it up north. She takes you on journey…..Started a new life fought injustice, met a man who fought too. They paved a new life for many. But always feels like if only it had been 6 years later her and Jasper would have been free together. This would have been their life…..They would have fought together. In her new life she marries freely and has children. No hiding…… She always longs for Jasper. Even now. Dies in her bed children grandchildren around…often wondered why she didn’t cross over realized her purpose to help others live a meaningful life is the reason.
