Description: This beautiful box with attached swing lid is like new, even though it was manufactured in the Philippines in 1999. The peso coin showcases José Rizal. Rizal is a national hero, a Filipino nationalist and polymath during the tail end of the Spanish colonial period of the Philippines. The coin is probably copper/nickel and it is becoming more difficult to find in such mint condition. However, it is firmly embedded in the lid. Last U.S. price on that coin was about $10.00. The box itself is a work of art. The lid moves smoothly, and it is slightly curved to create a lip that extends beyond the box top so it's easy to lift. The inside of the box is as beautiful as the outside. The measurements around outer edges are 8" x 4" x 2". The inside opening is 7" x 3" x 1.5". The walls of this box, therefore, are about 1/2" thick. Pretty sturdy! A beautiful lacquer job to boot. Left the tag on the bottom of the box to show Philippine authenticity. There are no felt tabs on the bottom to protect the box or furniture. We had the box on display on a glass shelf, so the glass didn't affect the box, and the box didn't scratch the glass.
