Description: This 1792 Twenty-five (25) Livres (de vingt-cinq Livres) banknote from Revolutionary-era France is certified by PCGS at Very Choice New 64; it is nominally dated on its face at October 14, 1792, and as such it is now ~232 years old. Nonetheless, this 50 Livres note is Crisp and Uncirculated, with gorgeous embossing of the seal and clear, clean white paper. This note bears the engraved signature of A. Jame, and is catalogued as KM: A67. Just an outstanding example of this centuries old high-denomination French Revolution banknote. 25 Livres after all was representative of 25 pounds of silver, equivalent to ~364.5 Troy Ounces of silver, which is about about $11,000 at the current price of silver in US markets. $11,000 is a very high denomination banknote!! It is unusual to find certified examples of these notes, and nearly all existing examples of these 1792-era notes are very deteriorated. A true piece of critical human history!
