ITEM DESCRIPTION DescriptionUp for your consideration is a very fine carved and inlaid burlwood French game box, featuring checkers and backgammon. The antique box dates to the second half of the 19th C. (c. 1870), and features extensive brass inlay. The box is made of thick, solid burlwood, and is heavy for its size. SizeThe box measures 14" wide, 7" deep, and 4" tall when the box is closed. When open, the checker/chess board measures 13.5" x 14.25" x 1.5" tall ConditionThe piece is in very good condition, with light surface scratching, and some minor loss to the border inlay (less that 1/8"). The border consists of two thin strands of brass. On one side, the strand of brass have been cut about 1/8th" form the end, and with the other, one strand is intact and one has some bending as the tip. All other inlay is complete and in good condition. See the last two photos to see what I am describing. Also, the upper half of the box is a shade lighter that the lower half, likely from light exposure.
