Description: Thus is tapa (masi) cloth made on the Fijian island of Vatulele, judging by the design. It is handmade from the inner bark of the mulberry tree and hand painted in traditional designs in briwn cirs. It is attached to woven pandanus leaf to make a clutch envelope bag. When the envelope is closed, it measures 14.5 inches wide, 11 nches tall. The tapa cloth wraps around the outside and the front of the inside, so the total measurement of the tapa cloth is 33 inches. The cloth is whipstiched to the sides and sewn in along the inside top of the envelope. It has been used. There is wear to the front as shown in the photos. There is a ripped spot on the front left of the top. There is a fold in the fabric on the front right side. Because of the wear, I am pricing it at less than half of what new ones are selling for. You can leave it as a bag or remove it from the pandanus and have a piece to frame that is 14.5 inches wide and 33 inches long. Even with the wear and imperfections, it is a beautiful authentic tapa cloth.
