Description: Festival Express : 1970 : Two ( 2 ) DVD Set ! : The Grateful Dead - The Band - Janis Joplin - The Buddy Guy Blues Band - The Flying Burrito Brothers & More !!! : 2005 (1970/2005) New Line Home Entertainment : Incredible !!! The Amazing !!! 2005 2-DVD Set !! Documentary of the Rock 'n Roll Journey & Experience ! ... Traveling East to West across Canada !! Priceless Rock Footage ! - on Stage !!! & on the Train !!!!!People, People ... People ! I mean Holy Rock 'n Roll !!!!!! Wow, I truly feel at a loss of words this very second - just thinking of how in the World one can even remotely ' describe ' this DVD experience to another Fan. I mean hopefully, you've seen it - and are looking to pick up a nice Collector's copy. But, if I have to start from scratch here ... I mean I am admittedly in trouble !?! Ok, well ... here goes nothin' ! So, I'll say what I'm thinking - as at least that is a nice start ... I'm not sure if this is indeed the Greatest Movie on the History of Rock 'n Roll's " Golden Period " ? - but, it might very-well be the Absolute ! Most-Enjoyable ! Sheww ... and now, I can go ahead & quote ' Robert Hunter / Jerry Garcia ', as they actually wrote a song about this 1970 Festival Express " Experience " - and that song my friends is called " Might As Well " !!! >>> " Great North Special, were you on board ? You can't find a ride like that no more. Night the chariot swung down low. Ninety-nine children had a chance to go. One long party from start to end. Time to the whistle going 'round the bend. No big hurry, what do you say ? Might as well travel the elegant way Might as well, might as well . . . Ragtime solid for twenty-five miles then slip over to the Cajun style. Bar car loaded with rhythm and blues. Rock and Roll wailing in the old caboose. Long train running from coast to coast bringing 'long the party where they need it the most. Whup on the boxcar, beat on the bell. Nothing else shaking so you might just as well. Might as well, might as well . . . Never had such a good time in my life before. I'd like to have it one time more. One good ride from start to end. I'd like to take that ride again ... Again ! Ran out of track and I caught the plane. Back in the country with the blues again. Great North Special been on my mind. Might like to ride it one more time. Might as well, might as well . . ." " Wow ... and, I'm proud to say That ! ( Verse 5 of 6, that is ... ) was even my official quote in my high school year book ! Ha !! See folks, that what this one means to this guy ... Magnificent ! And ... check this out, as this is exactly what Robert Hunter himself ! said about it ... " In the early seventies a train was leased for a trip across Canada, stopping in major cities to throw music festivals. On board were Delaney and Bonnie, Ian and Silvia, The Band, Janis Joplin, The Grateful Dead, Charlebois, the New Riders, and various other acts that boarded from time to time. Everyone agreed we had just about the best time of our collective lives in that week of nonstop music and partying. Nearing her last days, Janis, for one, wished aloud that the ride would never have to stop." - Robert Hunter, Box of Rain, 1990 Viking Penguin. No point in me even saying a thing, right ? As ... you most-definitely can't even follow up Hunter's greatness. Just Fabulous !!! Well, I will say this ... from Rock's Golden Era, the Movies that come to mind 1st, at least to me are - " Gimmie Shelter " - " Woodstock " - and of course ... " The Last Waltz ". Am I missing any that are in this " league " ? Well, possibly so ... but, like I was saying - I'm not sure any are as " Fun " head to toe ... like Festival Express ! Not that Festival Express is all roses, some trouble with the local Canadian Police, and what have you ... but, the others all have their more depressing moments of reality ... where this movie ? Oh my ... does it keep you a Flying !!! Being a lifelong Grateful Dead Fan, for me ... the G.D. footage both on Stage & on the Train ! is Priceless, as there is a clip of Garcia playing Cold Jordan that is simply over-the-edge !?! I mean I am talking about a complete shivers down the spine - and then back up ... Overload !!! Plus, you even get modern interviews with both ! Bob Weir & Phil Lesh on DVD Disc-2 !!! But, the biggest unexpected surprise for me - was indeed ! the Buddy Guy live footage, as this guy Stole ! that Show ... Big-Time !!! I actually met Buddy once, at his bar in Chicago called " Legends " - and my goodness do I wish I had seen this before I met him ! Unfortunately, this DVD didn't get released until 2005. But, Thank the Rock 'n Roll Gods in the Sky !!! that it did - and of course, anyone down here on this Planet - that had a helpful had in making this Treasure ! a Reality !!! Well, I'm going to have to think it through more indeed, but ... over the last close to Decade !?!! - I might just have to say that This ! ... Festival Express is my favorite Rock ' Roll Documentary. It is indeed tempting ! to claim, without any questions ... one watch, and you'll see why. Enjoy !!!!!!!TRACK LISTING >>>Festival Express ( 1970 ) : DVD ( 2005 release ) : Featuring Never-Before-Seen Footage of the Grateful Dead, Janis Joplin, The Band & More ...
