Description: Eros 1962 Volume One,Number One, Two, Three, and Four 4 volume set (complete); Spring, Summer, Autumn,& WinterRalph Ginsburg, editor Published by Eros Magazine, New York, 1962 First edition.Hardcover. Four volume set. Light edge rubbing on the Summer 1963 Book. Ginzburg's most famous publication, Eros, was a short-lived periodical which featured articles, stories, art and photographs that are all revolving around love. A high-priced magazine of classyerotica, it was launched in 1962, and only four issues were published before he was indicted on charges of violating federal obscenity laws and had to stop publishing the quarterly. He was found guilty by the Supreme Court eventually and sentenced to five years in prison (He was released after eight months.). This looks like a set someone had on display, perhaps as a trophy, but the pristine condition of the pages indicate they were hardly read, if at all. (Even the Marylin Monroe pictures look untouched.) These are actual pictures (not scans) of these books, with some minor smudges and handling marks on a few of the covers, otherwise a fine set of these books. Issue 1 has photographs by Garry Winogrand & ArtKane, articles by Nat Hentoff & Dr. Theodor Reik, and art from Degas. Issue 2 has articles byFayer Emerson, Arthur Herzog, Ray Bradbury and with 6 photographs by Eliot Elisofon and Marvin Newman. Issue 3 begins with an18 page portfolio of photographs of Marilyn Monroe by Burt Stern and also has stories by Dan Greenburg and articles by David Bar-Illan. Issue 4 has articles and stories by Rufus Mott, John Erno Russely, Ray Bradbury. All four issues are in near fine condition or better. No dust jackets as issued. A much nicer than usual complete set of this important and controversial periodical.
