Description: Maker: This beautiful hand-painted cream and sugar set is by the renowned Japanese maker Morimura Nippon, precursor to the equally renowned Noritake. Nippon is justifiably famous for its high quality and this set is no exception: it is classically designed, rich in detail and superbly crafted, featuring finely detailed pink and white flowers trimmed in raised gold beading, or moriage. Age: The green wreath mark with M (for the Morimura brothers, who founded the company around 1876) on the base of the sugar bowl dates the set's production to sometime between 1890 and 1921. The creamer is unmarked. Condition: Despite its age, the set is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, scratches, repairs, crazing or discoloration. There is some wear to the gold handles and a bit more on the creamer's spout, as well as a minuscule nick on the base of the creamer and a small rough spot under the gold at the base of the spout. Size: The sugar bowl is 3 3/8 inches wide at the opening and 2 3/8 inches tall without the lid. The creamer is 5 3/8 inches wide, measured between the tip of the spout and the far end of the handle, and 2 1/2 inches tall, measured at the middle. Please check all the photos very carefully – they are an important part of the description.
