Born Eddie Mahoney in Brooklyn in 1949, he joined the New York Police Department on leaving school, primarily to escape being drafted, whilst simultaneously singing for a hard rock band. Eventually though, he moved out to California and when his band there broke up he was mentored as a solo artist by renowned promoter Bill Graham who organised a record deal with CBS. This debut album was produced by former Doors alumni Bruce Botnick, with able assistance from famed engineers Andy Johns (Led Zeppelin) and Mike Clink (Guns ‘N Roses). It also featured musical support from members of the Steve Miller Band and introduced guitarist Jimmy Lyon, a man who would act as the perfect foil for Eddie’s instantly identifiable voice. The album was a major success boasting two massive hits, namely ‘Two Tickets To Paradise’ and ‘Baby Hold On’.
