Description: [zipedit] Denmark Event Publicity & Fundraising Poster Stamp Børnehjælpsdagen (literally Childrens' Help Day) is a very important charitable organization in Denmark, more simply known as "Childrens' Day". From the Børnehjælpsdagen website: Children's Day is one of Denmark's oldest organizations. It was founded in 1904 by philanthropist and municipal doctor Dr. Johan Niels Gottlob Carlsen, who was an ardent supporter of the child welfare movement. In April 1904, the inaugural meeting was held at the Medical Society's premises in Bredgade in Copenhagen. Here was chosen a Main Committee consisting of Johan Carlsen himself and about 30 reputable businessmen and women with an interest in child welfare. Chairman of the Main Committee was then Mayor of Copenhagen Municipal Corporation Section 3 Adolph Jacobi. The Committee's main goal was the organization of the first Children Day, which was to raise money for the poor children in Copenhagen. Within days the Main Committee succeeded in recruiting hundreds of volunteers, many of whom came from the children's institutions, which Børnehjælpsdagen would support. All helped to organize what would become the world's first Childrens' Day - a recurring annual harbinger of spring for the residents of Copenhagen. The then king, Christian IX, agreed to support the project. The idea spread to the rest of the country, where many towns took up the idea, so Børnehjælpsdagen is held in many Danish cities. The day was a school day off until 1972. Today, Children's Day is a modern humanitarian organization that works every day for foster children and vulnerable young people in Denmark. From 1905 on, there have been many poster stamps issued for Børnehjælpsdagen, from many cities and towns, some designed by Denmark's top graphic artists, and often reproducing full-size publicity posters. These poster stamps were used as event publicity and as fund-raising devices for the organization. Stamps were printed in sheets of 100 stamps, with no backprint and no marginal markings. After 35+ years I decided to retire from being an active Cinderella Stamp dealer. Most of my working inventory plus backup stock was sold at public auction. However, I have retained some material that I will be offering for sale. In addition, I have some "new" material that was mixed into lots I have bought for my own collections. I will be listing some of the material in my eBay store at fixed prices. I will also be offering some material at auction, either as single items or mixed lots. There will be many bargains available. There will be large and small lots, some containing similar material, some containing a random mixture, and some containing only one or a few items. The condition will be mixed, but none of the lots will be just accumulations of damaged or faulty stamps (unless specifically listed as such). Items in stockpage or larger lots may be removed and repackaged into glassines to save on shipping costs. A Note about Poster Stamps and Gum: Because many poster stamp collectors are primarily interested in the image on the stamp, the absence or presence of gum on the back is of little concern. If no mention of gum is made, then there may or may not be gum present. If you are only interested in poster stamps with original gum, please inquire before bidding. Actual condition issues (that are not apparent from the scan) WILL be described. A Note about "Stock Images": Occasionally I will have more than one example of an item in inventory. Rather than scan each one individually, I may use the same image for multiple examples of the item. If that is the case, the item supplied will be in substantially the same, or better, condition than the image. Any such items will have the words: "STOCK IMAGE" at the end of the description.
