Description: PRICE REDUCED! Excellent, pre-owned condition lacquer on masonite serigraph by David Ordoñez, Guatemalan folk artist. Titled "El Baile del Venado," it depicts two men in deer costumes performing a folkloric and spiritual dance of the Mayans of Guatemala and Yaquis people of Mexico. The information we found about the meaning of this artwork is that it may have been a ceremonial dance performed prior to going on a stag hunt, asking forgiveness of the gods for the killing of deer, a sacred animal to the native people. Framed, the painting measures 22" x 25" overall. The viewing area measures 15-7/8" x 18-1/4" Signed "Venados, Guatemala" "David Ordoñez" and "1979" The label on the back indicates that this is numbered 7 of 80. The signature on the label may be original. Cannot say for sure. I have a liberal return policy.
