Description: Come Meet the Clowns. FIRST EDITION BOOK. 1941 Macmillan First edition of Come Meet the Clowns by Lydia Furbush and Dorothy Neumann, published by the Macmillan Company of New York in 1941. Book condition: scattered wear to dust jacket, including light staining, edge tears, and paper loss to spine and corners; the inner front and back covers (and adjacent pages) show signs of toning. The interior pages are fine and essentially unaffected. From Kirkus Reviews: This is the sort of gay and amusing and somewhat sophisticated looking circus book that will catch the eye of the adult circus fan. The illustrations by Lydia Furbush are in full color, a beautiful piece of reproduction. But I rather question the concentrated interest on the part of children of the picture story book age in clowns. My personal experience with them has been that the clowns terrify them until they are old enough to be amused by them. The text is a bit mature, too. Perhaps this is a picture book for older children rather than small fry.
