She grew up on a farm that was once a cotton plantation. She began sketching as a child and became a commercial artist after moving to New Orleans in the mid 1940's. Almarie began painting watercolors, mysterious Louisiana swamps, historical French Quarter scenes, the noted St. Charles Ave. streetcar line, as well as grand Plantation homes. She began painting her most notable style - Folk Art paintings, in the mid 1970's until her eventual retirement from painting around the year 2000. Almarie operated her own art galleries in the New Orleans French Quarter for many years where she became established as an eccentric personality - a talented and personable figure who loved nothing more than interacting with her clientele whenever she wasn't busy focused on creating her art. Her work promoted racial harmony. Her work has been published by lifestyle magazines as well as featured at private and museum showings in Germany, Italy, London, Kong Kong, New York City, Atlanta, New Orleans, and elsewhere, Almarie's partial clients include Oprah Winfrey, Dick Gregory, many Hollywood celebrities, New York financiers, Las Vegas entertainers, Politicians, Royalty, Inventors, Engineers, Physicians, Attorneys, Judges, Investors, Entrepreneurs, Sports Figures, and Fortune 500 executives. She also occasionally created original paintings on special commission for clients. After Almarie passed away in 2002 due to declining health, her work was rediscovered by the media again years later when Entertainment Tonight publicized that Oprah Winfrey was holding an estate sale near her home in Santa Barbara, CA to be conducted by Kaminski Auctions in late 2013 featuring many of Oprah's personally cherished items which she was then making available to the public. Among these items, a single small Almarie Pittman Little painting closed at auction for $1,300.00 which was just one of many Oprah had purchased from Almarie in years past. Since 2013, all Almarie Pittman Little original signed Folk Art genre paintings have greatly risen in value and continue to do so moving forward. Almarie Pittman Little is renowned for her meticulous attention to detail and the technique she frequently used in creating textured raised figures throughout her colorful and vivid Folk Art painting themes. She termed her innovative painting technique "modeling and relative scale". Her works are treasured and sought after by many and are in private collections globally.
