Description: Original Civil War Era US M1855 Altered Socket Bayonet w/Leather Scabbard - Blade is "US" Marked - Unknown Altered Rifle-Musket - Very NICE Condition - RAREUp for sale is an Original Civil War Era US Army Model 1855 Altered Socket Bayonet. This bayonet has the US marking on the blade. This bayonet will fit the .58 caliber Unknown Altered Model 1855 Rifle-Musket. The blade and socket are in Very NICE Condition. Some minor discoloration on the socket & the blade. No rust or pitting on the socket or the blade. The bayonet is 18 1/4" overall length, with a 3" socket with a 0.820" bore, 15" blade and 14" face flute. There is a "25" stamped on the edge of the socket, see photo. Also included is a Leather Scabbard. This scabbard features the early sewn frog and belt loop. The scabbard has the full leather covering with a brass tip. The brass tip has some dents & dings, see photos. Some wrinkling, creases and cracking on the leather. There are no markings on the scabbard. I believe this bayonet is altered to fit some unknown "Cadet" version of the M1855 rifle. This bayonet will an Unknow Altered .58 caliber Model 1855 Springfield Rifle-Musket.
