Description: Centaurea Jacea also known as Brown Knapweed, has thistle-like flower heads that are 1 – 1 ½ inches across. Each head consists of a set of ray flowers around the outer edge, and then in their center, have shorter disk flowers. The flower color ranges from pink to purple and occasionally white, while the center disk flowers are much paler than the outer ones. The leaves of this plant are somewhat hairy, and near the base, the leaves may be stalked. The stems are a reddish color that can grow between 1 – 4 feet tall. It has a blooming season that ranges from July to September, will grow between 12 – 48 inches tall, and does best in full sun with well-drained soil. This plant will attract pollinators to your garden such as Hummingbirds, Butterflies and Bees while being resistant to Deer and Rabbits.
