Description: Canada, 1939 Royal Tour Commemorative 92.5% Silver Medallion, 32.5mm, 18.5g, Hi Grade Toned Very nice uncirculated but handled 92.5% silver medallion commemorating the Royal Tour of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth. An important part of history, the Royal Tour was undertaken on the eve of World War II as a way to emphasize the links between Britain and Canada. The royal tour lasted from 17 May to 15 June, covering every Canadian Province, the Dominion of Newfoundland, and a few days in the United States. It was the first visit by a reigning Monarch of Canada and also the first time a Canadian monarch had set foot in the United States. The royal tour demonstrated and cemented Canada's allegiance to the Crown and its status as the senior dominion of the British Empire. The Royal Tour ended in June - by September the world was at war.
