Description: Maker: This gorgeous antique plate is by England’s iconic ceramics maker Ridgway. It was produced at the company’s Cauldon Place factory on the banks of the Cauldon Canal in Staffordshire. The factory was established in 1802 by Job Ridgway, and his sons John and William continued production on the site until 1838, when they dissolved their partnership. In 1839, John was appointed Potter to Her Majesty Queen Victoria and he continued production on the site until he retired in 1858. The factory operated under the name John Ridgway & Co. between 1830-1855 and the blue mark on the reverse of this plate contains the name "J.R. Ridgway & Comp". Design: This classic 12-sided blue and white transferware plate features Windsor Castle, a royal residence since the 9th century. It's part of Ridgway's Baronial Castles series which was produced in the 1840s. Size: The plate is 10 1/2 inches wide and weighs 1 pound 7 ounces. Condition: It has no significant scratches or repairs. There is wear on the edges, verge and raised points, two significant chips on the rim, age discoloration, a dark spot near the center and significant crazing throughout. Please check all the photos very carefully - they are an important part of the description.
