Description: Folk art embroidered textile art from Bihar, India, described by the artist who made it as “Girls allowed to go to college with boy, but come home after”. Work is from a women's cooperative that help support families in the region, and gives women a voice to express their views on their daily lives, women's and girl's education, social issues such as family planning, AIDS, even dowry burning, etc. The very delicate embroidery in works such as this, is almost like Seurat's "Pointillism", where tiny dot embroidery stitches on another color sparkle and take on a third color from afar. Very beautiful! Work is embroidered cotton cotton; 65" x 16"; in new, excellent condition. I bought many Bihar textile pieces done in women's cooperatives, all depicting themes in the lives of women in India. The works were shown by an Indian art dealer at one of the early International Folk Art Markets in Santa Fe, at the Museum of International Folk Art, but, since the market now only accepts the artists themselves or artist cooperatives, and not dealers, the works have not been available to me recently, and I do not know of any other sources at this time. *I am posting on behalf of my mother, who is Art collector. _gsrx_vers_851 (GS 7.0.17b2 (851))
