Description: Bausch & Lomb 88mm f/6.8 large format lens, Wollensak Graphex shutter This lens likely began life as a wide angle option for a 4x5 press camera, sometime in the 1940s or 1950s. It was part of a large collection of view camera equipment donated to the Argus Museum by a San Francisco Bay Area photographer. Online sources say that it just covers a 4x5 negative, making it OK for a press camera but not ideal for view camera applications requiring significant lens movements. This example has numerous fine cleaning marks (see photo 3) that are not apparent at first glance. I did several pictures with it using a 2 1/4 x 3 1/4 roll film back on an old Cambo view camera. The best of these is the B&W photo above. I also did some photos with a kluged mount on my Canon Rebel 7 (see the color photo above). I adjusted both images using the levels command in Photoshop (but no sharpening). It appears to give reasonable images despite the cleaning marks, particularly with scanned/Photoshopped B&W negatives. There is a nick about 2mm long in the chrome ring that sets the shutter speed, around the "25" mark (see top arrow in photo 3). I have not been able to document the design, but it is a fully symmetric small aperture lens with strong curvature of the front and back glass surfaces and very light blue-violet coating. Wollensak made a similar lens of 4 elements in 4 groups (see the diagram above, courtesy Bill Wanderer of AlphaxBetax Shutter Service). The shutter is the Wollensak Rapax Full Synch model with 1 1/4 " lens threads, made to fit into the opening of a Copal #0 board. It works smoothly down to 1 second, but is probably slow at the fast speeds. This lens is not part of the Argus Museum collection.Guarantee: 30-day return for any reason.
