Description: Barns of Southwest Illinois Edmund E. Kueker 2003 self published 116 page illustrated paperback signed by author______________________________________________ Most barn ground floors were used for livestock shelter and feed grain storage. Upper floors were designed to store loose hay. With additional hay storage needed the gabled roof gave way to the gambrel, gothic or round roof barns. Some of the three story of barns had two floors for livestock and one for hay storage. When farmers started baling hay there was no longer a need for the large hay lofts and many of the barns became obsolete. Listing and template services provided by inkFrog
