Description: Rare and beautiful early example of one of Wegner’s most enduring – and most plagiarized – designs. This one’s authenticity is confirmed by its double-signature; the frame is stamped both JOHANNES HANSEN, and with the original maker’s mark. The chair’s condition is excellent given its age. The oak frame is very sturdy and exhibits a nice patina. A few hairline cracks are visible to the end grain in 2 spots (both shown in the photos), but neither compromise the chair’s integrity in any way. Similarly, the caning is in great shape. The seat and back are both tight and sound. There are 2 small breaks in the cane - both are pictured. But as both breaks are located at the periphery of the chair frame, they’re scarcely noticeable, and no threat to the its structural integrity. The chair folds up properly – the hinge mechanism is smooth and tight, as it should be. The JH512 is a true design icon, and authentic examples in this condition are becoming quite rare indeed.
