Description: Athens, Attica, Greece, New Style Tetradrachm, sim. Sear 2553-2559, 27-28 mm diameter, 16.5 gm,118-117 B.C. The obverse shows the helmeted head of Athena to the right, triple crested helmet, curvi-linear decoration on helmet, with griffin or pegasus to the right, above the raised ear piece; horses are above the visor. The reverse shows an owl standing to the right, on an amphora on its side, two torches on the right, all within an olive wreath. The two torches likely refer to Demeter who is often depicted holding a torch in each hand. Both sides are an original aged, toned silver color, with strong detail, and very little circulation showing on the high points of the design. This is a genuine original coin, not a copy, replica, or reproduction.
