Have seen them stamped “Germany” 5 Like item 4, but chrome plated 6 Ebony mute, art deco 7 Weighted mute (to really quiet the sound), in brass 8 Wire slide-on mute 9 Weighted mute (like item 7, but chrome plated), Have seen these stamped “Ton-Wolf” and “GFS Geschutzt” 10 ¾ violin mute in brass. Like item 4, but smaller and nickel plated 11 3 piece metal mute branded C Badalamenti, Detroit, with Pat date of March 1920. 12 Black rubber circle style 13 Plastic decorated mute 14 Catalin mute (a variant of bakelite from around 1930’s) 15 Catalin mute with silver crown – very flashy! Has a small bit of issing material on inside of one foot, but would not adversely impact performance or usability 16 Stamped metal mute, chrome or nickel plated, some have manufacturers stamp (“B” for Beugeleisen, I believe) 17 Unusual riveted 3 piece mute with a decorated polymeric “sandwich”, made in Czechoslovakia 18 Heifitz-type plastic mute 19 Unusual riveted heavy leather mute. Has a makers mark, but don’t recognize the maker. 20 3 piece pinned leather mute 21 Riveted 3-piece metal mute, nickel plated 22 Stamped metal mute w/ “Patent Applied for” stamp 23 Unusual 3 piece riveted mute, appears to be leather construction 24 Wood mute branded Germany
