Description: Japanese "Prayer to Shikidai Kuroshima Shrine For Safety of U.S. Apollo 11 Specifically for safe launching, safe lunar landing, and safe return to Earth of crew" Measures 4 3/8 in. x 12 in. Prayer is preserved in original wrapping. Has not been disturbed but I believe it is a wood block, wrapped in ornamental tissue paper with hand-drawn Japanese writing, wrapped again in decorative foil, and tied together with string. Accompanying the prayer is a letter (Xerox copy) from the State Department scientific attache, Robert Webber, written to Mr. Takaomi Kondo with thanks for the "considerate prayer for safety from your venerable and honored shrine."
