Description: I'll start by saying that I don't know the origins of this item. It is a VERY OLD toy, or model, of a kayak. I would "GUESS" this was made circa 1890's to 1930's - give or take. It appears to be animal skin, stretched & sewn over a wooden frame. It is similar in style to early kayaks used by Eskimo or Inuit Indians or Northern Native Americans - but as mentioned, I don't know the origins of this truly unique piece of folk art. It measures 28 & 3/4 inches long. (Almost a full yard long.) The condition is FAIR. A couple of inches of the skin, or hide, is worn away from the front tip. The hide is partly split on the rear tip. (Both ends are shown in close-up.) The skin is soiled and discolored in some areas, ESPECIALLY on the underside. For the most part, it is in pretty good shape, considering the age - which I presume to be around 100 years old. It displays nicely, and is guaranteed to be old to your satisfaction, or your money back.
