Description: Up for your consideration original lithograph from Russki Balet v Karikatura [Imperial Russian Ballet in Caricature]; St. Petersburg: 1902-1905 by Nicolas and Sergei Légat depicting N. Legat. The Légat brothers, Nicolai (1869-1937) and Sergei (1875-1905), were both highly successful ballet dancers with the Russian Imperial Ballet, St Petersburg, and the Mariinsky Theatre, as well as accomplished caricaturists of their fellow performers. Sergei fell foul of the authorities after the first Russian Revlution, and committed suicide in 1905. Nicolai married the Prima Ballerina, Nadine Nicolaeva (1895-1971), and together they taught such great names as Pavlova, Fokine, and Nijinsky, before they left Russia for London in 1923, where they taught Ninette de Valois, Alicia Markova and Margot Fonteyn, amongst others. In 1925, Nikolai succeeded Enrico Cicchetti as ballet master to the Diaghilev Ballets Russes. He and Nadine Nicolaeva Légat founded a long-running ballet school in London, which later moved to Kent and then East Sussex. Very good condition consistent with age and use.
