Description: Amazing antique circa late 19th/early 20th century primitive large hand painted wood box with hinges and latch. Boasts wonderful hand painted red and yellow detail complete with a yellow Federal Eagle. Box reads “A. Holbrook, New Hampton, NH”. Our research shows an Arthur Holbrook of New Hampshire born in 1862 and dying in 1933 who may be the original owner of this box. The box opens with old hinges and a latch that secured with a bent nail and boasts two internal compartments that measure 11 1/2” x 11 1/2” x 15” deep each. The box itself measures 27” x 12 3/4” x 16 1/2” tall. This can be used as a mini coffee table, as a base to a tower of smaller wood crates that can stack on it or simply as a decorative storage piece. Works well in any room and displays quite handsomely. In Excellent condition with a great patina and worn base that acts as a testament to its age and authenticity. Very sturdy and can hold a lot of weight. Bottom secure. Hinges on with old flat head screws. Only gentle west consistent with age; well preserved. Great graphics that remain bold and bright. A tremendous piece of New Hampshire history and an instant conversation starter! Measures 27” x 12 3/4” x 16 1/2” tall. New Hampton is a town in Belknap County, New Hampshire, United States. The population was 2,377 at the 2020 census.[2] A winter sports resort area, New Hampton is home to George Duncan State Forest and to the New Hampton School, a private preparatory school established in 1821. Granted in 1765 by colonial Governor Benning Wentworth, New Hampton was originally known as "Moultonborough Addition", after then-Colonel Jonathan Moulton, who held the position of town moderator. Moulton, who was born in Hampton, changed the name to New Hampton in 1777 when it was incorporated. In 1821 the New Hampton School, a Free Will Baptist institution, was founded in the town. From 1854 to 1870, the institute was affiliated with Cobb Divinity School (later part of Bates College). In 1920, the New Hampton Fish Hatchery, the state's oldest fish hatchery, was established in the town. Please enjoy the photos for further item details and if you have any questions feel free to ask.
