Description: If you are looking at this listing, you are probably more knowledgeable about antique maps than I am. I only know what I have looked up in order to list the map: it appears to be a c1640 Cornelius Blauew printing of a map originally drawn by Wolfgang Lazio. HOWEVER maps like this are often reproduced later, and I have no way of knowing whether this is an original by Blauew or a later repro. If you can tell me how to determine this I'd be happy to update this listing. I can tell you that the paper is laid and is thick, and there are no marks identifying the map as a repro. I don't see anything indicating that the map was removed from binding, like if it was once in an atlas, but the edges are rough so that may not mean anything. The printed area of the map is approximately 14x21", the paper is about 17x 23-1/2". The map came to me from my parents' house, and I have no idea about its provenance. A recent (20thC) inscription on the back from 'Mom' to 'Bob' says 'you might be interested in these' but there is no Bob in our family. I would welcome any further information about the map, but I am setting a low price here and hope it will please someone, whether it's a 17th C original or more modern reproduction. I may no claim or guarantee either way, as I simply don't know. There are numerous flaws, creases, etc in the map, even some small tears in the edges, which I have tried to show in photographs. If you need any further photos or description, please let me know. Thanks for looking!
