Description: Here is a gorgeous little porcelain bowl on three feet with a 4” diameter standing 2” tall. The satin glaze protects the orange and green floral hand painted decoration below the pale yellow outside rim. Below and on the underside is a creamy green. This beauty also has a scalloped rim trimmed in gold with a glossy opalescent interior. According to the back stamp this antique was imported from Vienna, Austria by P.H. Leonard of New York, NY sometime between 1890 and 1908. Many of the importer’s Vienna pieces were produced by Imperial Crown China, but this piece does not include that mark. Condition would be excellent were it not for an easily overlooked foot chip, see last photo. There are no other chips, and no cracks, scratches, crazing, paint loss, or wear to the gold trim. The back stamp, in green with the PH Leonard logo of a crown and two shields, reads “Vienna, Austria”. It’s an over-mark obscuring the decorating artist’s signature. This backstamp is most often credited to P.H. Leonard (1890-1908), however, I’ve learned that the same mark was used by other importers in the USA: Bawo & Dotter (1898-1900), Charles L Dwenger (1900-1915), Paul A Straub & Co (1915-1918). Thanks for looking.
