Description: Antique FOLK ART Primitive Hand Woven Splint Oak 10" Melon BUTTOCKS BASKET Click images to enlarge Description ANTIQUE GATHERING BASKET Wonderful early antique hand woven buttock's shape egg or melon basket measuring about 10" long, 8-1/2" tall and 8-1/2" wide. Featuring an oval form with thick, carved bent wood handle, basket is made of splint oak wood with a warm honey tone. Construction is very well done with the handle bent into a ring, woven into the basket form and finished with tiny pins on the handle interior. Condition is wonderful with minor usage wear and one tiny loop on the side edge has loss - does not detract a bit and is difficult to see. Basket has all the inconsistencies of a hand woven piece. Purchased from a Mid-Western estate, it dates to the first quarter of the 1900s - I'll include the faux apples if you would like - they display perfectly in the basket interior.
