Description: This is a beautiful antique beaded bodice (either a blouse or the top of a dress) retailed by Raphael Weill & Co., from this merchant's store known as "The White House", San Francisco, California. Mr. Weill, an immigrant from France, opened his shop in San Francisco in 1885. The front of the bodice remains in good condition with elaborate beading against black LACE. This bodice measure about 48" across from tip of cuff to tip of cuff, and about 17" from the shoulder to the waist band. The waist band is made of black satin and note the tiny and numerous black satin covered buttons on the sleeves as well as along the black satin trimmed neckline. The reverse side with its lining and stays, shows shredding. I have taken many photos that display the quality of this antique textile, including unusual trim at the waist closure.
