Description: This is a rare 19th-century Japanese Meiji period Papier Mache Letter Box with a lid. The middle partition is removable. It features Japan's most famous technique called 'Maki-e'. Maki-e is a traditional craft where designs are created on lacquerware surfaces using gold powder, silver powder, and other materials, often used to decorate objects with intricate and luxurious patterns.
