Description: Original graphite and wash painting from the first half of the 20th century by an accomplished but unidentified American artist. It is a highly stylized study of a woman's head in profile, the style brings to mind the work of artists such as William and Marguerite Zorach or Jose de Creeft. The drawing is rendered on wove watercolor paper, it is titled and dated in the lower right corner and measures 13 1/4 x 9 7/8 inches. The grammar of the title, "Head of Dancer", suggests the artist was not a native English speaker and the third number of the date is unclear, could be 1927, 37 or 47, style suggests it is one of the earlier options. Paper shows some surface grime and light age toning, otherwise it is in excellent condition.
