In the 4th century the image was taken by the Greek monk Ciríaco to the Monastery of Cauliniana, near Mérida, and in the 8th century it was brought to Portugal by King Rodrigo and Friar Romano, where it was hidden in a grotto until 1182. On the same date the statue was placed in a chapel built by Don Fuas Roupinho, Mayor of Porto de Mós Castle, as a way of thanking Our Lady for saving him from falling over a precipice, while trying to hunt a deer.Nowadays, the image is found in the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Nazareth and is worshiped, every year, by thousands of people.Beautiful figurine for your child to teach them about their faith and the saints.
