The inside is lined with fuel resistant Rezol enamel to prevent rusting and they are painted with a tough epoxy-polyester powder coat. They also employ an innovative design that allows for very rapid draining, in fact, they are rated to pour out completely in under 25 seconds!! There is a built in breather channel (shown below) that runs from the opening along the top to the back. As the fluid pours out, the breather allows air to replace it without any glugging or gulping. Unfortunately, there are many cheap fakes, imposters, and phonies. Almost invariably, an imposter will not have the breather channel which allows it to drain so fast and hassle-free. To me, this is the single greatest part of these cans. Phonies generally have thinner steel, weaker spot welds, unreliable pressed seams (instead of solid seam welds), inferior paint, and no (or inferior) fuel resistant enamel inside. Many of these imposters are advertised as “military style” or “NATO style” which is kind of true in that they are styled to look like a Jerry Can.
