Description: You are purchasing 2 cuttings from my numerous Chaya, or Spinach Tree plants from my yard in Southwest Florida. This is the hairless, or non-stinging variety. I have more than a dozen very large bushes that have been established for years. Just stick the cutting into the ground about 2-3 inches deep, or into pots to grow out. Don't water them as they will tend to rot. They prefer dry conditions when first planted and when rooting. That is why I ship the cuttings in a simple, dry, stuffed envelope. Unlike most plant cuttings, Chaya needs to be kept dry. However, after you plant them rainfall won't hurt them if it's well drained soil. Give them some time to start rooting. It could take a month or two before you start noticing new leaf growth. Maybe longer in mild weather. They grow fastest in hot, humid conditions with sunshine, but will usually do fine in partial shade, and even mostly shade. They will just grow slower. Be patient. Once they become established, they will start growing fast. Can be killed back by frost, but mature plants will usually come back in the spring and summer. If you are in a climate with fairly cold winters, it is best to grow them in pots and bring them inside whenever it frosts. Chaya survives shipping very well because the cuttings need to be kept dry. Normally several weeks will not harm it. Just remember, there are no refunds. All you need is for one cutting to grow out, then you can make your own cuttings whenever you want. It is likely that both of these cuttings will survive and grow if you follow directions. .
