Description: This is for an original program and ticket stub from the 1971 Cotton Bowl which was played between the number 1 ranked Texas Longhorns and the number 2 ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas Texas. Texas had already been declared the National Champion by the UPI coaches poll and were looking for a second straight undefeated season to go along with their championship. The Irish were looking for redemption as the previous years Cotton Bowl had Texas downing the Irish 21-17 for the National Championship. The Longhorns would enter the game as 7 a point favorite but the Fighting Irish wouldn’t need the help as they soundly defeated Texas 24-11 to end their 30 game unbeaten streak. The program and ticket are in nice shape and the inside of the program has been signed by four Cotton Bowl Hall of Famers. Joe Theisman and Steve Worster, who are both pictured on the cover, signed the inside of program at the Cotton Bowl Hall of Fame Induction in 2003 along with Notre Dame Head Coach Ara Parseghian and Texas Longhorn offensive lineman Jerry Sisemore who were Cotton Bowl Hall of Fame inductees in 2007. Something for everyone here and a great piece of history when the Cotton Bowl was reserved for the National Championship. A nice total package covering every inch of the 1971 Cotton Bowl.
