Vintage 1968 Ideal Diana Ross Doll Extremely Rare Face and Hair Prototype 18”

Description: 1968 Ideal Diana Ross Doll Super Rare Prototype. This beautiful doll is a Diana Ross prototype manufactured by Ideal Toy Corp in 1968. Three known versions of this doll were proposed for production. The first Diana prototype had longer base hair and a hole on the top of her head like the popular Crissy dolls. This was so an adjustable ponytail could be added. There is only one doll like this to be found. A professional doll restorer/collector owns her. The second Diana prototype doll (This doll) has the same beautiful face as the first prototype, but with her signature hairdo from the 60s and a variation in her face paint. I have searched and inquired extensively for more information on this doll and have not found another like her, except in a photo featured in the Ideal Buyers Catalog for 1968. I have included a photo of the catalog page in the photo gallery. Although she was shown in the catalog, she was never manufactured for the market. A third Diana with an entirely different face and hairstyle was chosen instead, and can be found on eBay every once in a while. This rare and possibly only surviving Second prototype Diana Ross doll is in Very Good condition, with her original stage gown and shoes. Her beautiful face is flawless and the face paint is all intact. No rubs or scratches. Her hair is very shiny with no missing plugs. It is clean with no styling product or glue. Her body is in remarkable condition, no staining or scratches. Very well constructed, heavier than the Crissy doll in her size. Her arms and legs move smoothly, no cracks whatsoever. The gown has some slight tearing at the back seam, and her shoes are showing orange under the gold paint. The orange boa trim on her gown is original and a little bit dusty. Pictures of these subtle flaws are in the photo gallery. Many collectors prefer to keep things as they are, so I did not address these issues. Boa replacement and /or repairs to dress and shoes included at the buyer’s request. I have been collecting and restoring dolls for just a few years, especially vintage Ideal dolls and I stand behind everything I offer.
