Union Carbide Corporation Ethylene Unit, Taft, Louisiana. Giant cranes set the second section into place on the tallest column of the ethylene unit now being completed at Union Carbide Corp's new Taft, Louisiana plant. Another section will increase the column's height to 240 feet. The ethylene unit is part of the first petrochemical complex at the new Carbide plant. The plant, located on the Mississippi River 20 miles above New Orleans, will contain the world's largest polyethylene facility and the world's largest acrylic acid-acrylic esters unit.
