Attorneys represented the couple, neither of whom was present, in the Juarez ceremonies. Sophia Loren and her proxy husband before her wedding which she did not attend. Sophia Loren wed, but she's absent. Actress Sophia Loren has married Italian Producer Carlo Ponti in proxy ceremonies in Juarez, Mexico. The marriage is recorded in the registry office in Juarez under the date September 11. Sophia, who said September 9 that Ponti was in Italy at the time because they wanted their marriage "to be legal in Italy, too," was married under her non-screen name, Sophia Scicolone. Standing in for Sophia was Juarez Attorney Antonio Mario Ballesteros. Doing the honors for Ponti was Attorney Antonio Lopez Machuca. They had powers of attorney from Miss Loren and Ponti.
